Can I use just plain old water/dish soap (I have Dawn) solution to test my oxygen connections? Is there any oil in dish soap?
Probably a stupid question but I'd like to be sure... |

You can use that to check . Use more soap than water and make sure you look closely. When you have a chance though I would get some real leak test it works so good to see leaks with , like mad bubbles on a tiny leak ya cant miss it.

Having a young child in the house, we ended up having a huge supply of bottles of bubble "stuff" for blowing bubbles.
I use that to test both oxygen and propane connections. Best part - the bottles of bubble stuff were free, either as gifts or given away at weddings. |

I usually just spray window cleaner (Windex or something like that) on the connections.

some soaps have a chemical content that will eat away at fittings. ive been told by a plumber that if you test pipes with dawn i can acculy cause leaks after awhile.
therefor i think the question should be what soaps are non corosive and blow good bubbles... i like the bubble blowing stuff for kids... that sounds pretty safe... i don't know. -slave |

if you test pipes with dawn you'll CAUSE leaks?!
i'm not an expert, i guess, but i've done a fuckload of dishes and i think i'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one. that can't be right. dish soap isn't going to eat pipes, imho. $.02 -f ![]() |

you can also turn on the gases get you set ready then shut down both tanks but leave the pressure and if you do have a leak the psi should drop let it sit for a bit to fully allow pressure to seak out leaks take note of psi before and after to determine if a leak is present

I don't know about the pipe fittings. But I do know from years in the jewlery biz that dawn and other dish soaps will eat the prongs off of gold and silver rings. Causeing the prongs to get lose and your setting will start to move around. its something about the phosphous in the soap reacting with the copper in the alloy.n so it might be possalbe to eat threw a pipe but i dout it would do it from a one time thing or if you wiped it off after.
I just spit on a conection to see if its leaking. |
